Parkersburg funeral home hosts 60th annual Memorial Day ceremony - The News Center

Va. (WTAP) - A local funeral home kicked off the holiday weekend with its annual Memorial Day ceremony. Sunset Funeral Home and Sunset Memory Gardens honored fallen veterans in its annual Memorial Day ceremony Saturday morning. The event featured a presentation of colors, 21-gun salute, roll call of the fallen, and cannon firing.Attendees also placed roses on the graves of their loved ones. Tracy Boorom, the funeral home's managing director, says the ceremony has been held since 1957. "Every year we do this program, to honor everybody that we have lost this year that we have either taken care of at the cemetery or the funeral home," she said.There were appearances from veterans of the American Legion Post 15 in Parkersburg and the Marine Corp League.

Lien, age 57, of Oregon passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on Aug. 16, 1959, in Stoughton to his parents, Ole and Elaine (Legler) Lien. Dennis graduated from Belleville High School in 1977. He worked on the family farm. Dennis then worked seal coating asphalt and then went on to drive truck for the Oregon Farm Center, Dane County Highway Department, Gabbei Meats, Mandt Trucking and Excavating, and Goodwill.Dennis was united in marriage to Cindy Roberts in 1991 and the couple later divorced after 19 years. He was an accomplished racquetball player and also enjoyed tennis. Dennis also enjoyed the History Channel and various documentary and informational TV programs, and was a Packers and Badgers fan.Dennis is survived by his daughter, Kayla Lien of Eagan, Minn.; siblings, Gary (Jody) Lien, Brooklyn, Diane (Greg) Dennis, Mount Horeb, Nancy (Jim) Gerry, Verona, Ronald (Bonnie Keyes) Lien, Brooklyn, Lois (Larry) Janssens, Monroe, and Tammy (Marty) Pulver, Brooklyn; and former wife, Cindy Roberts, Oregon. He is further survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Elaine, and a brother, Andy.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at the FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, Wis., with the Rev. Mrs. Carla Sue Boston Adams, age 71, of Cartersville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. A native of Bartow County, she was born on Jan. 28, 1945, the daughter of the late Louie J. Boston and Melow Barrett Boston. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her only child, Madison William (Matt) Adams who died on December 1, 1986 at the age of 15, who was her only angel son in this walk of life. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Gladys Evans, Daisy B. Howell; her brother, David Boston; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. George Adams; her sister-in-law, Sheila Adams; her special aunts, Alice Barrett Croy and Martha Boston Cline; her special grandmother, Leila Barrett and special friend, Nancy Mitchell Whitley. She is survived by her husband, Madison William (Dub) Adams of 47 years to whom she was married on May 17, 1969, at Friendship Baptist Church, where she is a member; her siblings, Mae Boston of Cartersville, Linda and Johnny Leachman of Euharlee; a brother, Lee and Robin Boston of Resaca; her uncles, Reverend Jerry and Betty Boston of Kingston, Ellis and Nancy Boston of Rome and Gary and Tonya Boston of Cartersville; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Adams and Wayne and Doris Adams of Cartersville; Reverend Sammy and Sherry Adams of Ellijay; her sister-in-law, Wanda Adams of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Howell of Columbia, South Carolina, Ted Howell of West Columbia, South Carolina, David Adams of Adairsville, Isaac Ball of Barnsley Garden, Gary Boston and Frank Perkins both of Cartersville.
